Privacy Policy

Your account: email address, and your name if you give it. A password, stored hashed — we never see it.

Your subscription: whether it is active, which plan, when the period ends, and an identifier linking you to our payment processor. We do not see or store your card number.

What you choose: the sectors and topics you follow, the articles you save, your language, and your email and WhatsApp preferences. Your industry and country, if you fill them in on your account page.

To give you access to what you have paid for, to show you the articles your preferences point at, and to manage your account and billing. Nothing else.

Supabase — our database and sign-in provider. Holds your account and preferences.

Stripe — payments. Holds your card details and billing history; we hold only the identifier that links to them.

Vercel — hosting. Processes requests to the site and keeps short-lived technical logs.

An email provider, once we send email — not yet in place. This page will name it before any email is sent.

We do not sell your data, and we do not share it for advertising.

We record which articles you open, how long you actively spend on them, how far you scroll, and whether you reach the end. We also record the actions you take on the site: following a sector, saving an article, sharing or gifting one, and arriving from an invitation or a search. Each record carries either your account or a random identifier for your browser — the same one the free-article counter already uses, not a second one. Why: to see which articles are worth writing more of, and whether the ones we think matter are the ones people finish. Nothing is sold, nothing is shared with an advertising network, and there is no third-party analytics script on this site. "Actively spend" means what it says: the clock only runs while the tab is in front of you and you have scrolled, moved or tapped in the last thirty seconds. A tab left open over lunch records almost nothing. Individual records are deleted after 24 months. Daily totals, which say nothing about any one reader, are kept. You can say no. Choose "Don't track my reading" in the notice at the bottom of the page, or turn off Reading history on your account page at any time — on an account the choice follows you to every device. If your browser sends Global Privacy Control we treat that as a no without asking. Saying no stops this recording; it does not affect the free-article counter, gifts or payments, which keep their own records because the product cannot work without them. Write to hello@gate86.com from your account address for a copy of what we hold about your reading, or to have it deleted.

A sign-in cookie, so you stay signed in. A language cookie, so the site opens in the language you chose. A cookie holding a random identifier for your browser, so the free articles are counted per device and not per visit. No advertising cookies, and no third-party tracking cookies. To stop one network from taking an unlimited number of free articles, we keep a shortened, salted one-way hash of the network address those identifiers were issued to. The salt changes every day, so the hashes cannot be linked from one day to the next, and the records are deleted after 48 hours. We do not store the address itself. If a connection goes past the limit, we also keep the network operator it belongs to and its approximate location (country and city) for 90 days, so we can tell abuse from a shared office connection. Still no address, and nothing is kept about connections that stay within the limit. Everything the site sets, in full, with the only optional one marked:

When you arrive through an article someone gifted or shared with you, or through a subscriber's referral link, we set one cookie that records who sent you, which article, and when you clicked. It lasts 30 days. Its only purpose is so that a reader who subscribes after a friend sent them gets the discount they were promised, and the friend gets the free month they were promised. If you never subscribe it expires and nothing is kept. If you do, we keep a record linking your subscription to the person who sent you, which is what the reward is paid against. The first person to send you something is the one credited; a later link does not overwrite it. We also record, for each visit, how you arrived — a search, a social post, a shared link, a direct visit — so we can tell which articles bring people to GATE86. Nothing here is sold or shared with an advertising network.

If you were invited to GATE86 personally, we hold what was needed to write to you: your name, your professional contact details (email address or LinkedIn profile), your company and your position, and sometimes a short note about where we met. It comes from our own records or from a professional network export, it is used to manage the invitation and nothing else, and it is never sold or shared. We also record when your invitation link was opened. Ask us to stop contacting you and we will; ask us to delete the record and we delete it.

Your account data for as long as you have an account. Delete your account from your account page and we remove your profile, your follows and your saved articles, and cancel any live subscription immediately. Billing records stay with Stripe for as long as accounting law requires.

You can see, correct, export or delete your data, object to a use of it, or ask us to restrict it. Your account page covers correction and deletion directly; for anything else write to us and we will answer within a month. You may also complain to your national data-protection authority — in France, the CNIL.
